Prince Miteb Appointed Minister of National Guard

Standard

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah issued today a royal order transforming the Presidency of National Guard to the Ministry of National Guard and appointing Prince Miteb bin Abdullah, Minister of National Guard.

The royal order said that the Ministry of National Guard shall replace the Presidency of National Guard and the Minister of National Guard shall replace the Commander of National Guard, wherever they come in systems, regulations, decisions and royal orders and decrees.

Unclear if this anything more than a change in titles only. The Saudi Arabian National Guard (SANG) has always been a powerful institution under King Abdullah before he became king and later under his son Miteb after that. Prince Miteb has been part of the cabinet for years as a state minister, but now he has a new title. Like the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Defense, SANG is one the major fiefdoms in Saudi Arabia. In addition to the armed forces, they run their own housing projects, schools and hospitals. They also organize the National Festival of Heritage and Culture, better known as Janadriyah.
