Government apologist Idris Al-Derayes takes the occasion of the National Day to shamelessly boost his credentials as a government apologist:
The volume of complaints has increased. Perhaps this is due to the fact that today we have Twitter and Facebook and people can freely express their views. If I am right about this conclusion, which of course is not based on any statistics or surveys, the matter needs to be studied seriously. If it is true, then we should try to find effective mechanisms to reduce the percentage of whining Saudis.
The columnist, who previously called Saudi Arabia’s ruling style “the desert democracy,” is now telling young Saudis they should stop complaining because their forbearers had to live a more difficult life. Seriously. ♦
